At the end of the Second World War the Potsdam agreement relocated thousands of Polish refugees from eastern Poland to Lower Silesia where the first language become Polish. The second and third languages were normally Russian, German or Czech but over the last 15 years things have changed dramatically. English is widely spoken among the under 40 age group. Visiters learning a few courtesy words will be met with a warm, frendly reaction.
